The first step, you should test on the Untouched version by @Jusses, still show error 500?

I'm not so sure about that because I tested it on both my localhost and shared hosting and it's still working ok.

My shared hosting environment is
- PHP 7.4.2x
- MySQL 5.7

My localhost
- Laragon 5
- PHP 7.4.2x
- Mysql 5.7

It seems working on shared hosting but not on vps

version 5.9.9 is the most stable version, after that a new development and redesign started, which will generate many bugs for the time bug and still counting... have a look in just two weeks 3 version updated and counting. in my case there is no install.php or updater.php in version 6.+
